THE YEARLEY DIMITROVA- WARREN AWARD IN WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FIRST WINNER OF THE YEARLEY DIMITROVA- WARREN AWARD IN WOMEN EMPOWERMENT IN NEPAL 

The long and difficult process on deciding a winner is over!! The high-class nominations were at first reduced to five, then further reduced to a final short list of two. The decision was a difficult one to make but, in the end, it was decided that the winner of the 2021 Award is @Saniya Giri 

Saniya is 25 years old and is a passionate trainer and facilitator who has been working in the field of women’s empowerment since 2014 including girls with speaking difficulties. 

 She is and a graduate of law and arts and grew up in a family full of troubles, raised by a mother who always worked hard. Working hard at school and achieved her education through scholarships, involved in institutions that honoured education. 

She shared with us that suffering from too many #metoo memories drove her to reach out to people.

 She has co-led an empowering young minds project to 387 students in 8 different schools for 8 different districts of Nepal. As a President of Rotaract Club of Kathmandu Metropolis she led a team of 25 conducting a total of 14 projects including the provision of books to the women’s cell of Banke prison.

As a board member of Women LEAD Nepal and Putali Nepal, she helped and provided valuable guidance to promote and uplift women and constantly contribute in women empowerment.

Plus, a wide range of other activities related to women’s empowerment. 

Trust founder John Yearley  , Trustee Doriana Dimitrova Warren and award organiser Santoshi Shrestha would like to congratulate all nominees for their work they are doing in the field of women’s empowerment and hope that they will continue their hard work and hope that they will be nominated again for the 2022 award. 

Whilst Saniya will be given the cash part of her award immediately, John and Doriana want to personally present her with the trophy. 

The formal presentation will be on February 20th when both John and Dori arrive back in Nepal. The nominees on the first short list (5 people) will be invited to the presentation as John and Dori are very keen to meet them.
