Medical Campaigns – all rural Nepal (2023)
08 January, 2023 Nepal, Causes rural Nepal(Nalang village)Help us save lives, prevent deafness and blindness throughout rural areas by organizing a series of Welfare Clinics a year from 2020 to 2023
Help us to save lives, prevent blindness and deafness in poverty stricken rural Nepal by donating money that will allow us to establish travelling Medical Teams that can see patients before basic and very treatable illnesses become life threatening.
Rural Nepal, which accounts for 81% of the country’s population, has absolutely no medical cover and the doctor patient ratio for the whole of the country is just 7.39% of the World Health Organisation’s recommended minimum. Indeed, many people have never ever seen a doctor.in their community. Communicable diseases such as Cholera and Typhoid are significant causes of premature death but account for less than 50% of all deaths, more common are the deaths caused by treatable illnesses such as high blood pressure and respiratory diseases. Cataracts and Glaucoma are also a major problem and account for a staggering 74% of blindness in the country, in addition to the illnesses that ultimately lead to deafness.
The Yearley Trust created a Medical Team of ten qualified optometrists and other medical staff and held their first Welfare Clinic in March 2020. We managed to give optical, hearing and dental checks to 1,185 people before lockdown for Covid-19 prevented us from carrying out the planned cataract operations. We did however manage to provide reading glasses and prescription glasses to all who needed them.
We are planning for a team of qualified doctors, nurses and dentists to visit at least four different rural communities a year to treat people. The Yearley Trust wants to be able to treat a minimum of 6,000 people each year but that number does depend upon your gifts:
- Your gift of £5 a month will enable us to prevent premature death due to high blood pressure or serious respiratory illness in 4 people a year and
- Your gift of £7 a month will enable us to provide basic dental treatment to 10 people a year
- Your gift of £10 a month will enable us to save one person’s sight a year with a cataract operation
This Cause is our effort to join Goal N3 – Good Health and Well-being from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
