John Yearley, the chairman of the Yearley Trust had a very productive meeting yesterday with the Hailsham Community College (HCC). The HCC will be hosting Shankar Silwal and pupils Rojina and Sujana from the NMA for a day during their visit to England. It was agreed that the day will start with Shankar making a presentation to the pupils of the HCC at the school assembly about the Nalang Model Academy. Shankar , Rojina and Sujana will then spend the rest of the day observing lessons covering all age groups at the school and also all subjects. The day will end with coverage by local newspapers (and possibly television) of the visit. The school will be preparing in advance a wide range of videos of teaching at the school together with other help and advice for teachers at the NMA
The school also said that they are starting planning to bring 50 pupils and 6 teachers as volunteers to the NMA in 2020. During that visit they will help with teaching and any other activities that will be helpful to the school and community of Nalang. The expect to bring several hundred kilograms of books and other teaching aids with them when they come. They will also be fundraising to enable them to make a significant donation to the NMA when they visit.
John Yearley would like to express his thanks to The Governors, Head Teacher and Teachers at the HCC for their support and hopes that this will just be the first of many schools working with the Trust to improve education at the NMA and in rural Nepal.
