The Yearley Trust is proud to congratulate Santoshi Shrestha on one of the world’s top athletic coaches Tessema Abshero becoming her coach working alongside her Nepali Coach Raghu Onta. Tessema is the coach of many great athletes including World Half Marathon record holder Yalemzerf.
We are especially pleased because Santoshi works for the Trust in promoting women’s empowerment. You can read her story and involvement with the Trust here: https://theyearleytrust.org/santoshi-testemonials/
After Trust Chairman John Yearley and the Trust’s European Sports Program Advisor Peter van Tarel drew the attention of one of the world’s leading sports management companies, Global Sports Communication(GSC) to Santoshi’s potential they were happy to become her management agents and are organising for her to compete in a series of word class races around Asia in the next 15 months, possibly starting with the Kolkata 25k in December.
She joins many of the world’s top distance runners, including double Olympic gold medallist (5,000m and 10,000m) Sefan Hasan as having the same managers. She also joins them in having kit sponsorship from Nike.
This is a great boost for women’s athletics, and women empowerment, in Nepal. The first time that anyone from Nepal has been considered to have the potential to work with world leading athletes.
We are very proud of Santoshi and very happy to arrange her work schedule to fit around her training and competitions. She is an example of what young women in Nepal can achieve
