Santoshi the 3000m gold medal winner works with the youth

The Yearley Trust is very lucky, and very proud, to have two of Nepal’s greatest women sporting icons, Koplia Upreti and Santoshi Shrestha, as it’s Sports Development Officers.

Santoshi in winning the 3000m gold medal in the 2021 Golden Athletics Meeting in the fastest time ever on Nepali soil and just missing out on the national record by a very narrow margin ran, in the opinion of our Chairman John Yearley, a former International Coach himself, by far the best 3000m ever run by a Nepali woman athlete.

He said “This was her first ever race over the distance and unfortunately she was so much better than the other athletes that she had no one to push her and virtually ran the race as a time trial on her own. I am confident that under the right conditions that she can smash the record”

A group of young pupils from Nalang, who had taken part in the Mini Marathon sponsored by the Trust a few days earlier, also took part in children’s’ events at the meeting and were encouraged and inspired by Santoshi before and after their races.

She is doing great with her mission of inspiring the young minds and teaching empowerment to girls from very young age

What a great woman and example

we are proud to work with and have many plans for the future development of sports in Nalang
